The Patchwork Tea House’s new website. It is an exciting new venture for The Patchwork Tea House and follows many requests from our customers all over Australia and from many parts of the world. We are still building our product catalogue for the website and hope you will visit us often to keep up with our progress.

The Patchwork Tea House opened in 2002 and in 2005 we relocated to our current location – a beautiful original 1930’s building. We are situated at the entrance to Warburton, Victoria 85kms east from the Melbourne CBD. Our business combines a patchwork shop with a tearoom and it has become a well known destination in the Yarra Valley for patchworkers and tourists alike.

Libby Richrdson -

1. Remember When. Libby’s designs are a real favourite and alrl our BOMS are sold out. We can still get patterns for you at $120 a set or help with some of the fabrics as starter packs. See website for images.

Liz Stanway -

2. Green Farm Village. Liz has done such a superb quilt that we have 129 ladies stitching away on their quilts and we only have 4 left. The BOM is $25 per month x 10 months. The pattern is $48.50. We have some fabrics available in store to help anyone add to their own fabrics.

3. Bearly Angels. Using the beautiful “Wild Rose” fabric Liz has designed the cutest angel bear quilt for little girls. It can be a fairy bear quilt with a wand instead of a halo and we have the Wild Rose fabrics in store. Pattern $17.60. Kits to order.

4. Bear Stitchery’s. Liz has also designed 4 bear stitcheries that make a lovely series. Also in the Wild Rose fabric they compliment the Bearly Angels quilt or are great on their own. Patterns $17.60

Lynette Anderson -

5. Scandinavian Christmas. This created a sensation at the Quilt Convention and orders have flowed in and are currently being cut. These will be sent by the end of July. If we have any extras they will be available in the shop at the end of July as will be any fabrics we have left over including the linen we are using.

6. Garden Button BOM. This has just started and for $11.50 per month you receive a little pattern (free) from Lynette and a lovely hand painted button to make her Garden BOM. You can read about it on Lynette’s Blog www.lynetteandersondesigns.typepad.com We are also one of the selected shops to distribute the Garden BOM so join the fun for $11.50 per month for 9 months and get a little surprise in the mail. Use your own fabric stash – great for beginners and lovers of Lynette’s stitcheries.

7. Dinosaur Delight. A great quilt in bright Fossil Fern fabrics. It will delight any young recipient who loves dinosaurs (how come the children know all the names and we don’t?). Pattern $55. Kits ready by the end of July

Amendments

“This Little Piggy Went Where?” – If you have purchased this pattern from us, please check to see you have the instruction pages in your pattern as we have found some were missing. Contact us if you do not have the instructions.

“McAngus & the Girls” – If you brought this pattern prior to June 2010 then your instructions many have a couple of cutting mistakes; they are minor but Annemarie has written an amendment sheet. Please contact us and we will send it to you.

Sunday 14th November

It time to open bookings for the Annual Quilt-In. Last year we had near to 200 attend and a waiting list that we just could not accommodate. For 2010, Bookings open Monday 19th July by phone/email and in person. Last year the Quilt In was booked out in 3 days so please make sure you don’t miss out.

Where: at The Warburton Golf Club

(Take the bridge before the shop and cross the river to the driveway directly opposite the bridge)

Guest Designer: TBA

Time: 11am – 4.00pm

What to bring: Handwork to do, lunch & “show and tell” (quilts are great as they are easy for all to see)

We will provide refreshments (tea, coffee). The Golf Club Bar will be open for other drinks and the Ladies Committee will make an individual afternoon tea plate for everyone.

New to our store is a beautiful new range of hand dyed stranded cotton threads.  These threads are all beautifully dyed and cut into managable lengths with 10mtrs of thread in each skein.

Its History

Pam Spurway is the  dyer and passionate creator of Cottage Garden Threads.  Cottage Garden Threads has been continually growing in popularity and demand for over for 12 months.
Now for the facts: Threads with the wrong treatment can bleed their colour but Pam is proud to produce 95% colour fastness due to the time and effort she puts into the preparation and process of dying. From batch to batch there may be slight variations as with all hand dyed fibers but as the sole dyer, Pam manages to control extreme differences.

Cottage Garden Threads has been designed with a short colour length of 2 to 3 inches especially for embroidery to enable a good variation of colour in smaller lengths of stitching. The variegated colour sequences are inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds her every day, living in rural Australia.

The range is constantly growing as interest increases. Specialty dying of thread colours is also available upon consultation of designers requiring a specific thread colour combination or style.

Being a small business owner herself, Pam understands the difficulties in competing with the larger chain stores and companies and so to offer her support, she intends to exclusively stock smaller shops and designers.

Time just gets away from me and before I know it, the middle of the year is here. Many of you may think I’ve disappeared off the face of the Patchwork world as it is so long since a newsletter has been written. My apologies to those who rely on the news to keep up with what is happening at The Patchwork Tea House and I will try to mend my ways!

The truth is I have spent much of my time writing everything for our new website – www.thepatchworkteahouse.com Not being savvy with the computer world, I did not realise the work needed to set it all up – just writing the framework took months of my “spare” time BUT that did not include the hours our daughter Cindy spent inputting the information. I am indebted to her for the help she has given us with it.

I am amazed how many people have been in to have a look from all over Australia and the world. We will be continually updating the site as new things arrive and we have news and events to notify you about.

Rather than going backwards with news of the past, let’s move forward to what is happening now and in the future…………

New Books/Patterns/Gadgets

1. “Crafting Tilda’s Friends” is the newest book in the Tilda series.   We are now importing some of the Tilda embellishments and we will be getting the doll kits and scrapbooking stickers soon.

2. Papillion gold and silver thread – called the Butterfly Thread.   It is easy to use, rarely shreds and you can even chain stitch with it $4.30 a reel.

3. Tsukineko Fabrico Paint Pens – great for detail and shading your appliqué and stitcheries  $5 each

McKenna Ryan “Chrissy Down Under”

Since McKenna’s visit last year, she has been very busy designing this fabulous quilt. You can view it on her website www.pineneedles.com and on our website. If you are interested in more information please email or phone me. As soon as I have costings, I will let you know. We will be doing the quilt (in the fabrics McKenna has chosen) in batches of 12. I am sure it will be the “Aussie Masterpiece” for all who participate.

Stitchery Days

Our popular Stitchery Days can be booked any day excluding Tuesdays and Sundays. Gather a group of friends (minimum 4 maximum 18. Saturday maximum 10) book your date, arrive about 10am, choose a preprinted stitchery, and enjoy morning tea and lunch and afternoon tea. Stitch, chat and enjoy the day till approximately 3.30pm. $38 per person.

Friendship Tuesdays

Our friendship Tuesdays are growing each month and you are welcome to join us on either the 3rd or 4th Tuesday in the month 10am – 2pm. Bring your handiwork to do- make new friends and we’ll feed you! The cost is only $13 for the day.

End of Year Breakups

We are taking bookings now for Christmas group lunches/breakups or stitchery days. If you are planning ahead, it is a chance to secure your choice of dates.
