Janome MyLock 644D Review

Janome 644d

Janome MyLock Overlockers have a range that caters for all sewing levels from every-now-and-then to every-single-day. Constantly including differential feed and nothing less than 4 threads, they are renowned for quality and dependability. The MyLock 644D is one of the top of their range.

The Write Up From Janome:

The MyLock 644D includes essential features for simple serging. The differential feed system of two feed dogs virtually eliminates puckered edges on woven fabrics and stretched edges on knits. Its unique rolled hem conversion feature eliminates the need to change the needle plate, foot, or tension setting for rolled hemming. Janome has restructured the lower looper guides for easy access. Color-coded guides are easy to follow for 2, 3, or 4 thread serging. All of the features on this machine are specially designed to make this serger the easiest to use on the market today.

What Does That Mean to You as a User?

If you have never used an overlocker before, choosing the Janome 644D gives you fast, seams that can be adjusted depending on fabrics, and easily threaded when you change colours. Seams will be quicker, accommodate stretch fabric better, and only need to be sewn once. If you already own an overlocker then the 644D offers easier threading, bringing the lower looper to you rather than having to struggle with threading from the left.

Our Favourite Feature?

The simple conversion to rolled hem. Moving adjustable levers, rather than having to remove a needle plate or play with the tension, means that you can effortlessly come and go from standard seam to rolled hems.

Something That It’s Missing?

There is no Free Arm on the 644D, meaning that small circular seams like children’s sleeve cuffs, have to be sewn flat. If you are doing lots of little circles, you may want to look at the Janome 744D.

Summing Up the 644D in 1 Sentence:

This model has been a staple in the Janome range for many years, proving popular because of its smooth stitching and consistent reliability.
